1. Route Breakdown (Via Savana Propok / Jalur Malang)

The standard and most scenic route up Bukit Kondo takes you through a beautiful transition of landscapes:

  • Basecamp to Gate / Pintu Rimba: A flat, easy walk through local farms and open savanna. (30–45 minutes)

  • Pintu Rimba to Pos 1 (Pos Mata Air): A gentle incline entering a lightly forested area. You will cross a small water source here. (45–60 minutes)

  • Pos 1 to Pos 2 (Savana Propok Camping Ground): The trail becomes steeper with loose dirt. It opens up dramatically into the massive, flat, green Savana Propok. Most hikers set up camp here. (1 to 1.5 hours)

  • Savana Propok to Puncak Kondo (Summit): A short but very steep, narrow ridge climb up the spine of the hill. It requires careful foot placement as there are steep drops on both sides. (45–60 minutes)

2. Standard 2 Days / 1 Night Itinerary

To get the most out of the experience (especially the famous stars and sunrise), a weekend camping trip is highly recommended:

Day 1: Basecamp to Savana Propok

  • 13:00 – Arrive at the registration basecamp for a briefing and gear check.

  • 14:00 – Begin trekking from the trailhead.

  • 17:00 – Arrive at Savana Propok, set up your tent, and enjoy the sunset against the backdrop of Mount Rinjani.

  • 19:00 – Dinner and stargazing (Propok is known for incredibly clear night skies).

Day 2: Summit Push & Descent

  • 04:30 – Wake up and begin the steep ridge climb to the true summit of Bukit Kondo.

  • 05:30 – Reach Puncak Kondo (1,937 mdpl) to watch the golden sunrise over a sea of clouds.

  • 07:00 – Descend back down to the Savana Propok campsite for breakfast.

  • 09:30 – Pack up camp (Leave No Trace) and head back to the basecamp.

  • 12:00 – Arrive back at the basecamp, collect your hiking completion certificate, and depart.

3. Key Logistics to Keep in Mind

  • Water Source: There is a water source near Pos 1, but it is highly recommended to carry enough clean drinking water from the basecamp for your entire cooking and hiking duration.

  • Temperature: Because it sits right under 2,000 mdpl, temperatures at night drop significantly. Bring a windbreaker jacket, a proper sleeping bag, and a beanie.
