1. Sembalun Route (The Summit Expressway)
Best for: Trekkers prioritizing the true 3,726-meter summit.
Terrain: Starts through open savanna grassland before tackling the steep, volcanic scree ridges up to Pelawangan Sembalun (Crater Rim).
Key feature: This is the shortest and most direct path to launch your early morning sunrise summit push
2. Senaru Route (The Lush Rainforest Path)
Best for: Beginners, families, or those who want a panoramic lake view without forcing a grueling summit run.
Terrain: Steady, continuous climb through dense, shaded tropical jungle.
Key feature: Leads up to the Senaru Crater Rim (2,641m), offering arguably the most iconic bird's-eye views directly down onto Segara Anak Lake and the Barujari mini-volcano
3. Torean Route (The Scenic Valley Path)
Best for: Hikers looking for dramatic, Jurassic Park-like valley landscapes rather than steep mountain ridges.
Terrain: Passes along deep river canyons, lush green cliffs, natural hot springs, and waterfalls.
Key feature: Typically used as a stunning descent route after climbing up from Sembalun.
4. Southern Routes: Timbanuh, Aik Berik, & Tetebatu
Best for: Off-the-beaten-path hikers seeking absolute peace and avoiding the tourist crowds.
Terrain: Steep forest terrain that leads up to the less-visited southern crater rims.
Key feature: These routes do not connect to the true main summit or offer direct, easy trail access down into the central lake
